Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has become president of the Asian cricket wire following a decision made by the regional executive committee.
The ACC Executive Committee held a virtual session where the decision on Pakistan’s presidency was made.
Naqvi, who has served as chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) since February 2024, takes on this prestigious role on April 3, the regional cricketing organ said in a statement, adding that his appointment is launching a new chapter of leadership to Asian cricket.
“I am deeply honored to take on the Presidency of the Asian Cricket Council,” said Naqvi.
“Asia remains heart beat in the world’s cricket, and I am obliged to cooperate with all membership cards to accelerate the game’s growth and global influence.”
“Together we will unlock new opportunities, promote greater cooperation and take Asian cricket to hitherto unprecedented heights. I also thank my sincere thanks to the outgoing ACC president of his management and contribution to ACC during his tenure.”
The presidents of ACC are the vervet on a rotation -based method among Member States.
Naqvi succeeded President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Shammi Silva. Silva reflected on the transition and shared her appreciation of the ACC community: “It has been a privilege to act as president of the Asian cricket council.
“The steadfast commitment from our member’s boards working together has been crucial to raising ACC’s stature throughout the region.”
“When I step down, I have full confidence that ACC under Naqvis talented leadership continues its remarkable journey and thrives,” concluded Silva.
Naqvi was appointed PCB chairman last February for a three-year period and apart from fulfilling the role of PCB manager, Naqvi is also the Minister of the Interior in Pakistan.
It was also learned that Naqvi made decisions to divide his tasks with the former captain of Pakistan Cricket Team Waqar Younis.
The PCB chief will focus on administrative affairs on the board, and the veteran Pacer will act as his adviser to cricket affairs.
Younis will oversee cricket affairs, including questions related to international and domestic cricket, selection committee and non -indentation certificates (NOCS) for the players.
The Constitution of PCB 2014 allows the chairman of the board to divide or share his power with another official.
