Pakistan leads condemnation of Israeli strike on Qatar at UNHCR

The Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday condemned the Israeli military aggression against Qatar on September 9. OIC said Israel violated the international law and the UN -Charter and constituted a dangerous escalation and threatened human rights in the region.

“This unjustified and unprovoked attack is a dangerous escalation that threatens human rights and an attack on sovereignty, security and territorial integrity in the state Qatar under the pretext of counteracting terrorism,” the statement added.

OIC expressed solidarity with Qatar and supported “all steps it can take to protect its security and sovereignty in accordance with the UN -Charter.”

Pakistan’s ambassador to Bilal Ahmad, whose land was among those who led the call to the urgent debate, warned that “this unjustified and unprovoked attack constitutes a dangerous escalation”.

When he spoke on behalf of OIC during an urgent debate at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Tuesday, Ahmad said the group welcomed the session and thanked Qatar’s prime minister for international cooperation Maryam Bint Ali Bin Nasser Al Missen for his address.

“OIC, on the strongest turns, condemns the Israeli aggression against Qatar on September 9, 2025 in open violation of international law and the UN -Charter,” he added.

He said the attack undermined the mediation process that Qatar has hosted regional and international partners to tackle the humanitarian crisis of occupied Palestinian territory, especially Gaza.

He called on the international community to “force Israel to stop his dangerous and ongoing attacks in the region” and called on the UN Human Rights Council to secure accountability for what it described as Israel’s “serial violations of international law.”

The statement added that mediation initiatives from Qatar and other countries offered a basis for “a fair and lasting regional peace with equal rights and dignity for all people in the region, especially the people under occupation in Palestine.”

Meanwhile, the United Nations and a large number of countries also condemned Israeli’s attacks on Qatar last week, decreasing a “dangerous escalation” and demanding “accountability”.

This strike “was a shocking violation of international law,” said UN Rights Chief Volker Turk during an urgent debate on the UN Human Rights Council on the strike.

He condemned the attack as “an attack on regional peace and stability,” he called for “accountability for illegal killings”. His words were repeated by Qatar and dozens of landing representatives who spoke during the three hour debate.

Qatari International Cooperation Minister Maryam Bint Ali Bin Nasser Al-Misnad Blacksmith Israeli’s “treacherous attack” and demanded that the international community “take practical steps to keep the aggressors responsible and prevent their impunity”.

“This attack was not an isolated incident, but was rather part of a wider campaign aimed at distorting Qatar’s role and hindering its diplomatic efforts,” she said.

The Council announced on Monday that it would convene the 10th urgent debate since its establishment in 2006 following two official requests from members of OIC and Gulf Cooperation Council.

Neither Israel nor its most important allied the United States, both of which disconnected from the Council earlier this year, were present for the urgent debate.

But Israeli Ambassador to Geneva Daniel Meron paralyzed the meeting from the sidelines. “This marks another shameful chapter in Human Rights Council’s ongoing abuse,” he told journalists.

He accused the council of “serving as a platform for anti-Israeli propaganda while ignoring the brutal realities of Earth and the atrocities committed by Hamas”. There was little support for Israel’s attitude during the debate.

The EU Ambassador Deike Potzel emphasized the block’s “principle attitude against terrorism in all its forms” while emphasizing his “support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar” and calls “on Israel to respect international law”. “We urge all parties to refrain from all actions that jeopardize mediation channels and regional stability,” she said.

China’s Ambassador Chen Xu said his country “firmly rejects and categorically condemns” the attack on September 9, which he accused was “a deliberate attempt to derail the negotiation process”. Some of the harshest criticism came from South Africa, which has brought a case against Israel before the international court accused it of committing genocide in Gaza.

The attack “strikes against the heart of mediation processes,” Ambassador Mxolisi Nkosi told the council, adding that it “shows that Israel does not want to end his genocide war against the Palestinian people”. “It is time for the international community to demonstrate through practical countermeasures that Israel does not enjoy some form of special immunity against accountability.”
