Pakistan lifts ‘full spectrum’ response to Indian aggression

Pakistan will insert the “full power spectrum”, including nuclear capabilities, in response to any Indian military strike or disruption of critical water resources, its ambassador to Russia has warned.

In a sharp statement to Russian TV company RT on Saturday, Ambassador Muhammad Khalid Jamali claimed that Islamabad had intelligence that indicated impending Indian military action. “There are leaked documents suggesting plans to strike certain areas in Pakistan,” he said, calling the threat “impending.”

The ambassador’s remarks follow increased tensions between the nuclear armed neighbors after a deadly 22 April attack in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). New Delhi has accused Islamabad of having had militant groups and pointed to suspected Pakistani citizens attached to the assault in Baisaran Valley, who killed several civilians.

Pakistan has denied involvement, called for an international investigation and suggested that nations like China and Russia participate. “We expect neutral and credible investigations of the incident,” Jamali said.

The broadcast also issued a pointed warning about India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty-a long-term agreement that controls cross-border rivers. “Any attempt to use or divert water would be an act of war and would be met with full force,” he said.

Despite the harsh rhetoric, Jamali emphasized the importance of restraint and noted that both countries possess nuclear weapons. “There is even more need to break down the tension,” he urged.

In the wake of the attack, India expelled Pakistani diplomats, suspended visa services and closed its earth boundary to Pakistan. Islamabad answered kindly. New Delhi has since announced additional financial measures to downgrade bilateral ties.

As diplomatic hostilities intensify, international observers urge the calm between regional rivals, in the midst of fear of potential military escalation.
