Islamabad:
As the world observes the International Day in support of victims of torture on Thursday, Pakistan repeated his solidarity with torture victims globally and confirmed its commitment to eradicating torture and maintaining human dignity.
“Islam maintains the holiness and dignity of any man. Any act of torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment is incompatible with the values of justice, mercy and compassion that is at the heart of Islamic teaching,” spokesman for the Foreign Office said in a message of the day.
He said that led by these values and its international obligations remained Pakistan obliged to eradicate torture and strengthen the protection of all individuals.
“Legal reforms, institutional protection measures and supervision mechanisms are still strengthened by Pakistan to ensure accountability and maintain the rule of law. Measures are also taken to give the victims medical, legal and psychosocial support,” he noted.
The spokesman said Pakistan remained seriously concerned about the widespread and systematic use of torture as an instrument for oppression in situations with foreign occupation.
He emphasized that the population of the occupied Palestinian territory and IIOJK continued to be exposed to the worst forms of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment from the occupying powers to suppress their right to self -determination.
“Pakistan is repeating his call to the international community to condemn the crimes of these occupying powers and to keep them responsible, in addition to helping end the situation of the victims of their torture and oppression,” he added.
