Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday condemned an Israeli strike on Doha as a “obvious violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law, promising Pakistan’s full solidarity with the Gulf State and called for unity in the Muslim world.
During an official visit to express support after Tuesday’s attack, Prime Minister Shehbaz Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met and conveyed “Pakistan’s strongest condemnation” of what he called Israel’s “unfraved aggression” in the Middle East.
He offered compassion for the loss of life and asked for the recovery of the wounded.
PM said Pakistan, at Qatar’s request, had sought an emergency session in the UN Security Council to discuss the incident.
He greeted Qatar’s decision to host an extraordinary Arabic-Islamic Summit Monday and confirmed Pakistan’s willingness to sponsor and co-convenes the meeting through the organization of Islamic cooperation.
The Prime Minister praised Qatar’s “responsible, constructive and mediatory” role in efforts to secure peace in Gaza and warned that Israeli acts were intended to destabilize the region and hinder humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives.
Sharif, who confirmed what he called the “historical, brotherly bonds” between the two nations, Sharif said that Pakistan and Qatar had “stood with each other through thick and thin.”
He thanked Amir for Doha’s support during Pakistan’s former standoff with India and assured Qatar from Islamabads continued to support “shoulder to shoulder” with his leadership and people.
Amir Tamim thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz for his visit and gesture of solidarity.
Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination to promote regional peace, maintain international law and support Palestinian rights.
