Pakistani authorities have released 22 Indian fishermen from Karachi’s Malir prison, beginning their repatriation process on Friday, as confirmed by a police officer.

Arshad Shah, the superintendent of the Malir prison, confirmed that fishermen began their journey back to India when the necessary formalities from the Indian side were completed.

He emphasized that Pakistan strives to ensure that prisoners are kept under good conditions and that they are immediately released when they receive the required directives.

Faisal Edhi, president of the Edhi Foundation, arranged transport for the fishermen to Lahore, from where they will continue their journey back to India. The Edhi Foundation covered their travel expenses and gave them gifts and cash.

Edhi also called on both governments to use a more compassionate approach to fishermen who inadvertently cross maritime borders.

He emphasized the suffering of their families during their long -term imprisonment and called for their immediate release and quick re -patriation when their sentences are completed.
