London:
PML-N president and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned Israel’s ongoing actions against Iran and regrets them “oppression and profits” and confirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Iranian people.
In a brief interaction with journalists outside the Avenfield residence in London, Nawaz Sharif said at the moment “oppression and injustice”.
“We were with Iran and we will continue to stand with Iran.”
The former Premier’s statement came in the midst of escalating regional tensions following Israeli strikes within Iranian territory and drew widespread condemnation from all over the Muslim world.
Pakistan has in official statements supported Iran’s right to self -defense and condemned Israeli’s military aggression and called it a violation of international law.
In a commentary on Pakistan’s defense position, Nawaz Sharif said that being a nuclear power was a blessing to the country, but added that the intention behind acquiring nuclear capacity was to promote peace, not war.
“Pakistan being a nuclear country is a matter of luck,” he said. “We became a nuclear power for not waging war, but for establishing peace.”
He called for global efforts to stability and coexistence.
“There should be peace in the world,” the former prime minister claimed. “Israel has wrong Iran. What happens is suppression. Just to attack such a like that and burn them down … this is not acceptable. In what kind of community does this happen?”
He said Pakistan remained in line with Iran against Israeli atrocities.
“Pakistan stood with Iran against Israeli atrocities and will continue to stand by it,” he added.
The comments of the three-time prime minister come as Pakistan has condemned the Israeli acts and rejects Tel Aviv’s military act that has entered its fifth day while advocating for restraint, dialogue and compliance with international norms.
