Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned Israeli aggression against Lebanon, citing the loss of innocent lives and widespread destruction of infrastructure, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MoFA).

“The Israeli actions undermine international efforts to bring peace and stability to the region and constitute a flagrant violation of international law and basic humanitarian principles,” the statement read.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community to take urgent and concrete steps to stop the aggression.

It also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the government and people of Lebanon at this difficult time, adding: “Pakistan supports Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as its peace and stability”.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan expressed deep concern over ceasefire violations in Lebanon and stressed the urgent need for full respect and implementation of the ceasefire to ensure lasting peace and stability during a telephone conversation.

The DPM/FM appreciated Saudi Arabia’s continued support to Pakistan’s efforts to achieve lasting peace. They agreed to stay in close contact.

On Wednesday, Iran sounded the alarm over a breach of its temporary ceasefire with the United States following Israeli attacks on Lebanon and halting the flow of oil in the Strait of Hormuz.

Within hours of the ceasefire deal brokered by Pakistan, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said Tehran is preparing a strong retaliation against the Israeli regime in response to Israel’s breach of the ceasefire in Lebanon.

The warning followed reports of Al Jazeeraciting Lebanon’s health ministry that at least 89 people were killed and more than 700 wounded in Israeli attacks across the country earlier in the day.

Israel carried out its heaviest attacks on Lebanon since the conflict with Hezbollah erupted last month, even as the Iran-aligned group halted attacks on northern Israel and Israeli troops in Lebanon during the two-week US-Iran ceasefire.
