Pakistan and India have formally accepted a ceasefire after days of increased tensions, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed on Saturday night.

Dar said to Pakinomist News, moments after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire with US back, saying both sides have agreed to stop hostilities from 16:30 today.

Dar, an experienced politician, said that Pakistan had always been open to a ceasefire, but made it clear that any future aggression from India would be met with a fixed answer.

He expanded gratitude to all countries that played a role in the mediation of the ceasefire, especially recognizing efforts by US State Secretary Marco Rubio.

Dar added that diplomatic efforts had been going on all day, which eventually led to the deal today morning. “Pakistan has always worked for regional peace without compromising its sovereignty,” he noted.

On the Indian side, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also confirmed the ceasefire, Indian media reported. He said that all military actions would be suspended and that general administrators of military operations (DGMOs) from both sides would give lectures on May 12.
