Pakistan and Uzbekistan signed several agreements on Wednesday with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation in defense, technology, technical education and youth power.
The agreements were signed under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s two-day visit to Uzbekistan on invitation from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Both countries also agreed to work to expand bilateral trade to $ 2 billion.
After their bilateral meeting and lecture at the delegation level, Prime Minister Shehbaz and President Mirziyoyev witnessed the signing of several documents. These included agreements and mouss in different sectors.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov exchanged documents related to visa -free travel for diplomatic passports, military intelligence, internal affairs, professional and technical education and training of diplomats.
An intermediate state agreement was also signed between the two countries to collaborate on scientific research, technology and innovation. Minister of Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Khodjayev Jamshid exchanged the relevant documents.
In addition, the Minister of Information and TV spreading Attaullah Tarar and the Director General of the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan, Kuchimov AbdusAid, exchanged an agreement on news collaboration between the two countries’ news agencies.
DPM Ishaq Dar and the mayor of Tashkent, Shavkat Umurzakov Buranovich, signed a mou between Lahore and Tashkent.
A Mou was also exchanged between Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s youth program and the government of Uzbekistan on youth affairs, where the Minister of Information and TV -Attaulah Tarar and director of the Youth Affairs Agency of Uzbekistan Sa’dullayev Alisher exchanges the documents.
He spoke at a joint press conference, President Mirziyoyev welcomed PM Shehbaz and emphasized the importance of the agreements.
He said the two nations would work together to overcome challenges and unlock new financial opportunities.
The Uzbek leader emphasized that trade volume would be expanded and described direct flights between Tashkent and Lahore as mutually advantageous.
He also noted that leading Pakistani business figures were in Uzbekistan to explore investment opportunities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Uzbek government for his hospitality and confirmed Pakistan’s obligation to strengthen economic and strategic ties.
He called Uzbekistan a “reliable partner” and invited Uzbek investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan.
PM Shehbaz said his government had stabilized Pakistan’s economy and lowered inflation from 38% to 2.4% and that political reforms increased the investor’s confidence.
He also emphasized the importance of regional connection, including trade through rail networks and joint efforts in minerals and tourist sectors.
PM Shehbaz also called on Afghanistan’s temporary government to ensure that its territory is not used against Pakistan, which emphasizes that regional peace and stability are in the collective interest.
The premiere emphasized the importance of peace in Afghanistan and urged Kabul administration to take concrete steps to prevent cross-border security threats.
Previously, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was awarded an honorary guard in Tashkent when he arrived at the Congress Center to meet Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for high -level discussions.
The Uzbek leader received Prime Minister Shehbaz on arrival, with both countries’ national hymns playing before the prime minister underwent a military guard along with Mirziyoyev.
