- Building structure on Indus to be taken as aggression, says Asif.
- Security Czar says it won’t be easy for New Delhi to violate IWT.
- Says Modi “Staged drama” for votes at the upcoming election in India.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif warned on Friday that Pakistan would strike if India builds any structure on the Indus River in violation of the Indus Waters Treaty.
Islamabad and New Delhi are experiencing a period of increased tensions since the attack on April 22 on tourists in the scenic resort Pahaldam in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) where at least 26 people were killed.
New Delhi connected Islamabad to the attack without providing evidence and taking a flurry of punishing measures to downgrade tape, including the suspension of IWT, recall of Pakistanis and closure of the Wagah Attari border crossing among others.
In response, Islamabad ordered the deportation of Indian diplomats and military advisers, canceled Visa for Indian citizens, with the exception of the Sikh pilgrims and closure of the main limit transition on its part. Islamabad also denied his commitment to the attack and offered to participate in a credible and transparent investigation.
When we talked about the Pakinomist News program “Naya Pakistan,” the Defense Minister said, “Certainly, if they try to build any kind of structure we will beat it.” He said the building of any structure on the river Indus by violating the IWT would be considered Indian aggression against Pakistan.
“Aggression is not just about shooting guns or bullets; it has many faces. One of these faces is [blocking or diverting water]Which could lead to death due to hunger and thirst, ”he added.
Security Czar warned, “If they do any architectural attempt, Pakistan will destroy this structure.”
“But so far we are on our way to forums available to us, starting from IWT [Indus Waters Treaty]. We will pursue this case. “
The Minister was of the opinion that it would not be easy for New Delhi to violate the IWT, adding that Islamabad would approach those stakeholders over the unilateral suspension of IWT of the Indian government.
The Minister of Defense slammed the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over “Staging of the Drama” for political gains based on the upcoming election.
In response to a question, the minister said the global pressure on India has risen more than ever. “I will not yet say that the threat has been averted,” he added.
The minister elaborated that New Delhi did not receive global support it was expected, adding that the modested government could not present evidence in support of its false claims. Asif also said the international community rejected Modi’s accusations against Pakistan.
With reference to India’s rhetoric and accusations against Pakistan, the minister said, “India is encouraging continuously, but we will only take retaliation measures.”
