Abu Dhabi: Pakistan’s Agricultural Innovation received global recognition when Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand, a prominent Pakistani scientist from Shah Latif University Khairpur Sindh, was honored with the prestigious Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation in the “Influft Figure” category under a magnificent ceremony at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi.
The event participating by representatives from 66 countries over two days celebrated global results in sustainable agriculture and innovation. Dr. Markhand’s recognition highlights Pakistan’s contribution to global scientific research into agriculture.
In a speech with Pakinomist News, the researcher proudly said it was a great honor to receive the award for his contribution to date Palm Research.
He shared that over 180 researchers and scholars from 28 countries submitted their work for the “Influent Figure” category, where Pakistan and Egypt won the best awards in this category.
Pakistan-Uae Mou
An appointment morandum (MOU) was signed during the ceremony to organize the second Pakistan International Date Palm Festival 2025 in Pakistan.
Mou was signed by federal minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, who represented Pakistan, and Khalifa International Award General Secretary Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid.

Mouen aims to promote data almarine and sustainable agricultural practice. It seeks to promote innovation and knowledge exchange between Pakistan and UAE and strengthen their agricultural cooperation.
Hussain emphasized the importance of Pakistan-Uae collaboration and said: “This Mou and Dr. Markhand’s recognition reflects Pakistan’s involvement in agricultural innovation and sustainable practice. Together we can tackle global challenges such as food security and climate change.”
While discussing the production potential of Pakistan, Hussain said Mou will help improve the date production and introduce new varieties in the country. He expressed hope that Pakistan-Uae cooperation will lead to an increase in the date’s export from Pakistan.
Sheikh Nahayan, Ambassador Tirmizi recognized
Uaes Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan, praised contributions from awards winners to promote agricultural innovation.
Pakistan’s ambassador to UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, was also recognized for his efforts to strengthen agricultural and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The event, which was organized under the patronage of UAE -Vice President and Vice Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was concluded with recognition for international figures that contributed to the growth of the data palm sector and global agriculture.
