WROCLAW: Chelsea roared back to beat Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final in Wroclaw Wednesday and became the first club to claim all four major European trophies.
Manuel Pellegrini’s enterprising betis caught the favorites cold in Poland with an early goal from Abde Ezzalzouli, but Enzo Maresca’s team was another page in the second half.
Two goals in five minutes changed the match of the match, where Man of the Match Cole Palmer created both openings – first for Enzo Fernandez, then Nicolas Jackson.
Deputy Jadon Sancho made the game safely in the 83rd minute, ending from a tight angle, and Moises Caicedo added brilliance to the scoring line.
The victory means Chelsea will be the first club to win the full set of Champions League, the Europa League, Conference League and the now closed Cup Winners’ Cup.
It is also the club’s first piece of silverware since Todd Boehly’s consortium took over from former owner Roman Abramovich in 2022, ending an era with an unprecedented success.
After a light start from both sides, Beti’s stalemate in the ninth minute broke through Ezzalzouli, who also scored the goal against Fiorentina, securing their place in the final.
Malo Gusto lost the ball in the midfield and Betis rose forward. Captain Isco played a smart passport to find Ezzalzouli on the edge of the box, and the Moroccan drilled a left -footed shot over Filip Jorgensen.
Minutes later, Marc Bartra tried happiness from the distance when Betis pushed for a moment, but Jorgensen was equal to the effort and produced a flying rescue.
Betis was invited by their massed rows of fans at Wroclaw Stadium, and went close when Johnny Cardoso’s shot from inside the box was deflected behind Benoit Badiashile, with Chelsea clinging.
The Premier League page enjoyed most of the possession, but struggled to create meaningful chances where Betis defends strongly and Isco-a five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid-Trak strings.
As half-time approached, Betis goalkeeper Adrian drove from his line to refuse Enzo Fernandez, and Chelsea went into the break still baking.
Palmer Magic
Maresca brought Chelsea -Captain Reece James to the fighting Gusto during the break.
Betis was also forced into a change as goal scorer Ezzalzouli had to go off, replaced by Jesus Rodriguez.
Chelsea equalized in the 65th minute after a smooth motion down to the right, where Cole Palmer delivered a pinpoint cross for Fernandez.
The midfielder joked between two defenders to walk the ball down past Adrian.
Suddenly, Chelsea’s tails were up and the fans behind the goal come alive.
In the 70th minute, Palmer worked his magic again and danced on the edge of the box before whipping in a lovely ball that hit Jackson’s chest and rolled into the net.
Jackson could have added another but a heavy touch allowed Adrian to gather the ball.
Sancho came to 3-1 as he connected with colleague compensation Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Caicedo added a fourth to seal the victory.
Victory for Chelsea breaks a long -standing pattern of success for Spanish clubs.
Given the World Cup, European Championship, Champions League and UEFA Cup/Europa League, all the previous 27 men’s finals involving Spanish teams ended with Spanish winners.
On the few apartments where Spanish sides were defeated, it was always by other La Liga teams.
Previously, the center of Wroclaw was filled with supporters from both clubs, with green-white dressed Betis fans who surpassed their English rivals.
Poland’s Interior Minister said police made 28 arrests after fans collided in the city’s marketplace.
