Panjnad hit by extremely high flooding

Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported on Friday an extremely high flood at Panjnad, with the water stream reaching 679,000 CUSSCS, while the river flows upstream of the main work gradually returned to normal.

The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) confirmed that an unusually high flood at Panjnad, a medium flood at Guddu and SUKKUR barriers on Indus. It said Guddu could face a very high flood within 48 hours.

Sutlej at Sulemanki and Islam’s headworks are experiencing medium flood, FFC said, adding that there is a witness to a high flood on Sidhnai at Ravi. PDMA said the Ravi stream is registered at 69,000 CUSERCS with a high flood.

Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala registered 78,000 CUSERCS and SULEMANKI 102,000 CUSSCS, both categorized as medium -sized floods. Chenab at Marala and Qadirabad as well as at Khanki and Trimmu were reported at normal levels.

At Shahdara on Ravi, Flows stood at 31,000 CuseCs within safe borders, while Bloki head works registered 57,000 CUSSCS with a low flood. Officials said that departments remained on duty under directives from Punjab Chief Minister with resources mobilized to protect life and property.

PDMA noted the river flowing over Punjab gradually returned to normal as rain in the upper drainage had stopped.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Water Resource Ministry stated that Tarbela Dam has been at 100% capacity since August 27, while Manga Dam is 93% full with six meters of storage available. The Ministry has instructed provinces to prepare damage assessments caused by the floods.
