The government adopted four bills, including changing trade organizations 2021, during Friday’s joint parliamentary session, despite disruptions caused by opposition legislators from Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI).
The session, the chairman of speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, began an hour later than planned, Express News reported. PTI legislators created a ruckus in the house, held posters and opposed the vocal procedure.
Prominent figures, including Senate President Yusuf Raza Gilani, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Sherry Rehman, were present.
However, Bilawal Bhutto arrived after the session was completed.
Opposition members requested the right to talk about the point of law, but the speaker refused the microphone to the opposition leader and received protests. Opposition members sang slogans who rejected the PECA law during the session.
When protests and slogan rental intensified, the procedure was seriously disturbed, causing the speaker to wear headphones to continue the session.
Minister of Trade Jam Kamal presented the trade organization amendment 2021 and the import and export regulation amending Bill 2023, both of which were approved.
Senator Manzoor Kakar introduced the National Excellence Institute Bill 2024, which was adopted together with the National Institute of Technology BILL 2023.
The joint session was postponed until February 12. The session lasted a total of 18 minutes, with four bills being adopted in just nine minutes.
