Paul McCartney finally breaks his silence on the ‘Paul is dead’ rumours

Paul McCartney is honest about his lowest point since the Beatles split

Paul McCartney has finally opened up about the painful reality behind the Beatles break-up.

In his new book, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run (published November 4), the former Beatle revealed how the iconic band’s end left him devastated.

As revealed by The Guardian, Paul admitted: “In so many ways I was dead…”

“A 27-year-old soon-to-be ex-Beatle, drowning in a sea of legal and personal disputes that sapped my energy, needed a complete makeover,” he wrote, according to the paper.

He added that he wondered if he would ever be able to move on from a “fantastic decade” with the Beatles.

This confession comes especially as Paul McCartney revisits his infamous “Paul is dead” conspiracy, the 1960s rumor that claimed he had died and been replaced by a look-alike.

While the musician admitted he laughed about it the whole time, he now admits the phrase wasn’t completely wrong.

Also, Paul found healing by escaping to a quiet farm in Scotland with his wife Linda. “For the first time in years I felt free, suddenly leading and controlling my own life,” he wrote.

The Beatles, including members Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, disbanded in 1970.
