Islamabad:
Pakistan wore Council (PBC) on Saturday rejected the recent increase in court fees and described it as an attack on the poor’s basic right to access justice.
The decision was made at a meeting of the PBC Executive Committee led by Muhammad Yasin Azad. The Council expressed deep concern about amendments to the Supreme Court rules 2025, which strongly opposes the increase in court fees and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
According to a statement, PBC said the government had failed to take the council in confidence before introducing the fee increase. It announced that an all party conference (APC) would be called in Islamabad on September 27, which gathered representatives of political parties and bar associations to discuss the issue.
The PBC also condemned a Raid of CTD in the residence of the former Justice (RETD) Zahoor Ahmed Shahwani, where he describes it as a violation of the Constitution, the law and civil freedoms when it was performed without a search.
The Council condemned further murder of lawyer Mian Asim Kakakhel.
