Islamabad:
The Senate Standing Committee for Planning and Development ordered the Planning Commission on Thursday to remove the Kalabagh Dam from documents and presentations regarding the proposal for the construction of projects.
The committee met here with its chairman Quratul Ain Marri in the chairman to discuss various development projects, water resources, the status of dams and Karachi’s water problems. The President questioned the proposal for the construction of the Kalabagh dam and said that three assemblies were against it.
The committee was informed that 15% of the work on the Bhasha Diamer dam and 57.77% work in the K-4 project had completed. The committee emphasized the need to preserve water resources and mitigate the effects of climate change.
The meeting also discussed the progress of Gomal Zam and Darawat Dams. The question of new channels also came under discussion. The Secretary of the Water Resource told the meeting that the water would be taken from the Jhelum River and redirected to Cholistan from Salmaniki Head Works.
At the Karachi water crisis, the meeting informed that the work on the provincial part of the K-4 project to give water to the citizens of Karachi would be completed in April 2027.
