PCSIR is facing probe over alleged report manipulation

Islamabad:

A major controversy has been erupted at the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) following allegations of report morating and abuse of power involving PCSIR chairman and Director General, Lahore. In response, Minister of Science and Technology has dr. Khaliq Hussain Magsi ordered a study and formed a committee to investigate the matter.

According to an official complaint submitted by MS Trovik Business Hub PVT Limited to Minister, a sample of Betel nut referred to by the Department of Plant Protection (DPP), originally declared suitable for consumption on July 16, 2025 (Ref: Get04-11/07) by PCSIR LAHORE. However, a contradictory report was issued just a day later, on July 17, 2025, which declared the same test unfit for consumption and raised serious concerns about manipulation and procedural violations.

CEO of MS Trovik Business Hub PVT Limited has accused Dr. Hussain Abidi and Dr. Quratul Ain to orchestrate the change of test results for extreme motifs. He claimed that manipulation was conscious, believed to hurt the company’s business interests that were not in line with the chairman.

In response to these serious accusations, the Federal Minister of Science and Technology has ordered an official investigation to appoint joint secretary Bilal Butt as head of the Investigation Committee. The probe will aim to determine the cause of the conflicting laboratory reports and assign responsibility.

Insiders suggested that this may only be one of several irregularities under Dr. Abidi’s term of office, with several accusations already circulating within the ministry. The result of the study could have far -reaching consequences for PCSIR’s reputation and for business, which depends on its reports of regulatory approval and trade.

This incident emphasizes the urgent need for transparency and accountability in public test laboratories, especially when their reports have direct commercial and health -related implications.

Chairman PCSIR Dr. Hussain Abdi has not answered the question and accusations of the company.
