- PDMA KP warns increased landscaping risk in mountainous areas.
- Says Peshawar, Nowshera and Marran can face urban floods.
- Strong winds can cause damage to weak structures, warns PDMA.
The provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a flood warning as Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted continued wet weather in different areas of the province.
In its weather advisor, the provincial body said that precipitation is likely to swell local streams and rivers today with the risk of flooding in districts, including chitral, swat, shangla, buns, kohistan and abbotta. Persistent rain probably causes landslides in mountainous areas, threatens road access and cut off remote communities, it added.
It noted that low -lying parts of Peshawar, Nowshera and Marran can also face flooding of cities.
PDMA has warned that strong winds and heavy showers could damage mud houses and fragile structures such as mud houses, walls, electricity bars, advertising boards, vehicles and solar panels.
Local administrations, police and rescue services have been placed on high alarms, while the public and tourists have been asked to avoid unnecessary journeys, stay away from river banks and stay up to date to avoid accidents.
In its weather forecast, PMD also warned of widespread heavy rain that could trigger flash floods and landslides in several parts of the country over the next 24 hours.
According to the forecast, strong rainfall can cause flooding in local streams and rivers over chitral, swat, Shangla, buner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi and Marran.
Heavy showers are also expected in Murree, the Galliyat region.
In its weather forecast for other parts of the country, Met Office said that heavy rainfall is probably in Islamabad, Rawal Pindi, Northeast Punjab, Kashmir and Dera Ghazi Khan, increasing the risk of flooding seasonal waterways.
National forecasts have warned that low -lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Peshawar, Nowshera and Marran also face waterproof.
Met Office said the northeast Punjab could see particularly intense showers, while southern Punjab, northeast Balochistan and southeast Sindh are also likely to receive rain with thunder in the evening and night.
In Punjab, the provincial PDMA has raised concerns about rising water levels in Ravi, Chenab, Sutlej and Jhelum.
The authority warned that flooding is possible in northern and northeastern districts, where Sutlej already flows at a high level near Ganda Singh Wala and is expected to remain elevated for at least 48 hours.
Rescue teams have been deployed to sensitive areas while making messages in mosques and through local authorities to warn communities that are at risk.
People have been asked to contact PDMA Helpline 1129 in case of emergencies.
According to the counseling, rivers including Ravi, Chenab, Sutlej and Jhelum could experience medium -sized to high flood levels with the risk of flash flooding in northeastern districts.
Instructions have been issued to ensure that all emergencies are in place, with rescue units already deployed into vulnerable areas.
