Vacuum cleaners share the opinion more than you would expect, and the brand that people seem to feel strongest about is Dyson. Behind each Diehard Dyson fan there are 10 more people ready to eager to preach that they are the worst vacuum in the world.
Over the weekend, designer Mike Smith on X proclaimed that Dyson Vacuum was “not too serious vacuumers” and the subsequent thread became viral, with over 1,000 people pouring in to emit their vacuum views.
My hot roof is that Dyson -Vakuum is not for serious vacuumers. Battery is waste, filter is waste. Can too small. Absolute joke of a cleaning tool.August 10, 2025
I manage the vacuum cleaner content of Techradar that includes review of VACs from many different brands and put together our official Best vacuum cleaner ranking. All of this means I spend far more time than the average person thinking about vacuum cleaners.
I am neither wild pro or anti-dyson, and this discussion no longer swing me in both directions. What it did is make me even more confident in my long -lasting belief that what most people actually Has a problem with is not dyson -vakuum, but wireless stick -vacuum in general.
Lowless Stick -Vacuum is not the same as traditional vertical vacuum or container Vacs. In some ways they are worse. Provision of strong suction requires a lot of power, and the larger the battery it is heavier the vacuum – so trying to constantly feel to balance whether customers should give customers longer operating times or a lighter building.
A larger dust cup means a vacuum that is bulker and heavier, so there is another trade -off there with regard to how often you need to empty it. They also appear to be an inherent less sturdy type of detergent – wireless Stick Vacs is expected to have a much shorter overall life than other styles of vacuum.
In short, if you choose a wireless stick -vacuum, expect limited operating times on higher suction states, cans that need to be emptied regularly and so that it should not last forever. For these compromises, you get something you don’t have to connect the wall and that you can easily use to vacuum up the stairs – or even in the ceiling – if you want.
Of course, some wireless VACs work much better than others, but largely you should expect these advantages and disadvantages to be true no matter what model or brand you are looking for. Dyson Stick Vacs may not be for “serious” vacuuming, but boy is good for practical, comfortable vacuuming.
(Of course, the second element is when it comes to Dyson, the price. I get into this more in my article investigating whether Dyson Vacuum is worth it and I have also written about the experience of Shark vs. Dyson -Vakuum if you are interested in this comparison specifically.)
In the thread is the name that grows up again and again from the opposite choir, Miele. This brand is synonymous with container vacuum and not a direct comparison. One of the very best vacuum I have used with regard to direct suction power remains the 25 -year -old vertical who used to belong to my nana and now lives in my parents’ house. But it weighs a ton and takes up a lot of space, so when it comes to cleaning my own apartment, I would reach a dyson (or similar) every time.
