A Responsibility Court in Lahore granted permanent exemption from the appearance of former Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi in a corruption and setback reference related to development projects in Gujrat, Express News expressed Thursday.
The court allowed the exemption for medical reasons and appointed Anwar Hussain as Elahi’s prayer to act on his behalf during the procedure.
Elahi’s prayer appeared before the court, while former head secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti was absent.
The court postponed the hearing due to the absence of others accused in the case.
The reference claims financial irregularities in Gujrat’s development projects during Elahi’s term of office.
Last month, a court of responsibility formally appealed to chaudhry pervaiz Elahi in a national responsibility agency (NAB) reference linked to alleged corruption in development projects.
Elahi appeared in court to deny the charges, which include receipt of setbacks through his former head secretary, Muhammad Khan Bhatti.
The reference claims that Bhatti facilitated the appointment of preferred officials in the Punjab Highway Department to execute the scheme.
During the consultation, the legal staff ended Elahi’s participation in his vehicle, where he signed the load sheet.
Judge Zubair Shehzad Kiyani presided over the session and stated that delays caused by the accused tactic had necessitated a phase appeal process.
Several other co-accused, including Bhatti, are already indicted.
Nab claims that Elahi, together with his son Moonis Elahi orchestrated the scheme and took bribes under the guise of development initiatives in Gujrat.
The court expressed frustration over recurring medical exceptions filed by the defense, which often disturbed the procedure.
