A formal cochlea implant program has been launched on Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) in Peshawar to support children born with hearing reductions, according to Express News. The initiative has been introduced by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government in collaboration with Pakistan Bait-Ul-Mal.
HMC’s ENT -Team (ear, nose and throat) has already completed nine successful cochlaim implantat operations as part of the pilot phase.
The procedures that meet children between six months and five years are now offered under the government’s flagship Sehat Card (Health Card) program that significantly facilitates the financial burden of families.
Each cochlaim surgery surgery costs approximately RS2.15 million. This expense will now be covered by a combination of support from Pakistan Bait-Ul-Mal and Sehat Card Initiative.
In a recent milestone, the ENT team, under the supervision of senior health specialists, arranged a two-day cochlaim implant marathon at HMC, where nine operations were successfully performed.
The hospital administration praised the collective effort and dedication of the HMC ENT team and credited their stamina as an important driver behind the successful implementation of the program.
