Peshawar:
The centuries of old Bhai Joga Singh Gurdwara, one of Peshawar’s historic Sikh-occupation sites, has fallen into disrepair due to the non-release of funds for its restoration.
Gurdwara, located in the densely populated Dabgari area, was severely damaged in the devastating earthquake in 2005, but does not remain – -be -repaired today.
The structure, which is believed to be over 200 years old, is now in a fragile state. Cracks have appeared in the walls of its upper floors and rooms, while rainwater seeps through the damaged roofs and worsens its condition over time.
Minority members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAS) Gurpal Singh and Askar Perez visited the site recently and expressed serious concern over its deteriorating condition. MPA Gurpal Singh said that repeated appeals were given to the authorities concerned for the release of funds, but no progress has been made so far.
The two legislators have jointly submitted a decision to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Secretariat and calls on the federal government to immediately allocate funds for reconstruction and repair of gurdwara. They emphasized that the historic religious place that was damaged in the 2005 earthquake must be preserved without further delay.
