MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is reportedly considering removing Pete Rose from the league’s banned list, months after the game’s all-time hit leader died at the age of 83.
Rose’s family filed a petition for MLB on January 8 to remove him from the list, ESPN reported on Saturday. Baseball Legend’s lawyer, Jeffrey Lenkov, told the outlets where the petition was filed after Rose’s daughter met with Manfred and League spokesman Pat Courtney on December 17.

“Now is the time to turn the page on Pete Rose’s inheritance in baseball and for the Hall of Fame to honor him. Whether you are a fan or not by Pete Rose, we are best a nation with other chances, a nation of giving people other opportunities,” Lenkov told ESPN. “We don’t write off people.”
President Donald Trump wrote in a post on social media on Friday that he was planning to use to pardon Rose.
“Major League Baseball did not have the courage or decency to put the late, big, Pete Rose, also known as ‘Charlie Hustle’, into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Now he is dead, will never experience the tension of being chosen, even if he was a much better player than most of those who made it, and can only be named poshumøst. He wrote about truth social.

“In any case, over the next few weeks, I will sign a complete pardon of Pete Rose, who should not have been games on baseball, but only bet on his team, Baseball Hall of Fame!”
Rose broke out with his hometown of Cincinnati Reds, the team, he played 19 of his 24 seasons with, three of which also served as acting manager, in 1963, and he continued to make ligar history while securing three World Series titles along the way.
The nickname “Charlie Hustle” for his merciless drive when he was on the diamond was Rose League MVP in 1973, a 17-time all-star, three-time batting title, Rookie of the Year and World Series MVP.
Despite his 4,256 career hits, he became a polarizing figure when the news of his game on baseball shook the sports world.

Rose applied for reintroduction in 2020 and 2022, especially with legalized sports betting that is happening across the country. However, Manfred both rejected requests and pointed to Veteran’s Committee for all Hall of Fame discussions on Rose. Manfred also shot any speculation about Rose’s reinstatement in 2023, when the league had partnerships with sports books.
Although he is not in the Baseball Hall of Fame, the reds introduced into their own Hall of Fame in 2016 and withdrew at No. 14. He appeared several performances in MLB Ballparks in recent years before his death.
