PGA-LIV FUSION: Trump has been ‘facilitator’ of discussions, says Monahan

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said on TPC Sawgrass on Tuesday that President Donald Trump has been the “facilitator” between PGA and LIV golf to eventually strike an appointment.

June 6, two years ago marks the Bombshell message that the two sides discussed some kind of agreement to come together in some capacity, but conversations have long stopped – that is, until Trump took office.

Last month the trip credited Trump for ”[getting] involved for the benefit of the game, “and it seems that there has been movement since he got involved.

“These conversations are real. They are significant and they are driven at the top levels of both organizations. These conversations have been significantly strengthened by President Trump’s willingness to act as a facilitator,” Monahan said Tuesday. “President Trump is a lifelong Golffan. He strongly believes in the power and potential of the game, and he has been extremely generous in his time and influence to help bring a deal together. He will see the game reunited. We will watch the game reunite and his commitment has made the prospect of reunification very real.”

Monahan added, “We believe there is room to integrate important aspects of life golf into the PGA Tour platform,” and he could imagine “a future” in which the governor of the public investment fund Yasir al-Rumayyan can participate in the tour board.

“We do everything we can to bring the two sides together. That said, we will not do it in a way that reduces the strength of our platform or the very right momentum with our fans and our partners,” Monahan said, adding that “obstacles remain” between the two sides.

Trump last month expressed optimism that the two sides get some Type Agreement done.

“They have to meet,” he said. “They’ve had a lot of discussion back and forth. They both mean well and an appointment will eventually happen. I think it will happen pretty quickly. It would be nice to see the best golfers play against each other.”

“They are all good people and they will find out,” Trump added. “So if I can help find out … I don’t get anything out of it. I can help them figure it out. I just think golf – it’s very much an individual sport and you want to see the best players playing against each other and not playing in two different places.”
