The Peshawar High Court on Thursday granted protective bail to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi during a hearing before a two-member bench comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Muhammad Naeem Anwar.
The court also issued directives preventing law enforcement agencies from arresting the chief minister in connection with pending cases.
Justice Ijaz asked if any First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered against the Chief Minister. In response, Attorney General Shah Faisal Uthmankhel acknowledged that several FIRs existed, but said he was unaware of the exact number or whether any were directly linked to the chief minister.
The court allowed Afridi’s bail plea and granted him protection from arrest in all cases till November 18.
Separately, Chief Minister Afridi announced plans to meet PTI founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
He criticized those who prevented the meeting and asserted his constitutional authority as chief minister and representative of millions of citizens.
Regarding the latest development, Afridi dismissed a circulating list of cabinet members as fake, saying the final cabinet would be formed only after consultation with the party’s founding chairman.
After the trial, Afridi left the Peshawar High Court and traveled to Rawalpindi for the scheduled meeting.
