Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to resume direct flights between Dubai and Skardu from Friday (today), offering travelers practical access to one of Pakistan’s most picturesque and remote northern destinations, reported app.
The seasonal flight was formally announced during a ceremony held at the Pias Dubai Office, participated by the airline’s regional manager Sarmad Aizas, and Pakistan’s Consul General in Dubai, Hussain Muhammad. The event, which included a cake cutting ceremony, also participated by members of a foreign tourist group booked on the initial flight.
When he spoke to the apartment, the Consul General said: “This flight not only facilitates Pakistani expatriates, but also opens the doors to more than 200 nationalities living in UAE to discover the pristine beauty of Skardu and Gilgit-Baltistan.”
Skardu, located about 570 kilometers north of Islamabad, is known for its dramatic mountain landscapes, including some of the world’s tallest peaks, such as K2, as well as cold deserts and scenic valleys.
Direct flight service reduces travel time from over 20 hours on the road via Karakoram Highway to less than three hours by plane. The region attracts visitors all year round.
The summer season in Gilgit-Baltistan offers a respite from the golf heat, where temperatures typically remain below 20 ° C. In winter, the region of snow is transformed and attracts tourists to its unique cold desert safari experience based on snow-covered peaks.
Pia officials expressed hope that the route would further promote tourism in the country’s northern areas and provide greater the convenience of the journey to both overseas Pakistanis and international tourists.
