Islamabad:
The Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) has released a game-changing political plan entitled “Against a Free Market: A Plan for the Deregulation of Wheat Sector,” Written by Dr. Muhammad Faisal Ali and Dr. Sobia Rose.
The document, published as a political point of view, requires the full and structured deregulation of Pakistan’s wheat sector, which argues that the long-standing MSP policy has not failed to stabilize markets, protect farmers, or ensure consumer welfare.
Instead, it has led to unintended consequences – benefit for large land holders, flour -millers and middlemen – while accumulating a circular debt of RS680 billion in Punjab in 2023, a statement said in Islamabad on Sunday
