The T’Wolves Guard Divincenzo entered between the players and grabbed Holland’s jersey as the group moved into the fans sitting near Baseline. Piston’s head coach JB Bickerstaff and T’Wolves Head coach Chris Finch were each on the field and tried to cool tension.

When the players were separated, Minnesota assistant coach Pablo Prigioni and Bickerstaff began to scream at each other and had to be separated.

“Obviously, things went too far,” Bickerstaff told journalists. “But what you see are guys looking at each other, guys trying to protect each other, guys trying to have each other’s backs. … These are non-negotiations in our dressing room.”

Five players and two coaches were thrown out of the game, including Bickerstaff, the Netherlands, Reid, Divincenzo, Prigioni, Piston’s Guard Marcus Sasser and Center Isaiah Stewart. The game itself contained 12 technical errors, the most in an NBA game since March 23, 2005, according to the uplasting rate.

“I thought it was far too physical to lead the game to be too physical,” Finch said. “It’s unfortunate, but we knew they were a super physical team. They hit you, they hold you, all the things you want your physical teams to do. But I just thought it was coming to a point where the players should take the cases in their own hands. You don’t ever want it.”
