Pittsburgh Pirates were only a few laps in the regular season, and a freak injury on opening day already threw a wrench into the team’s lineup.
Pirates Infielder Nick Gonzales played in 94 games last season and hit .270 with a ops of .709. He was expected to have influence in his third year with Pittsburgh this season, but these hope was stabbed against Miami Marlin’s Thursday afternoon.

Gonzales hit a two-run home drive in the sixth lap of the team’s 5-4 loss to Marlins. When the broadcast asked the big fly over the fence, Gonzales was seen hobby around the first base.
After the match, manager Derek Shelton said on Friday that Gonzales suffered a “non-defined breach of the left ankle.” He was placed on the 10-day wounded list.

Gonzales was originally wounded when he set out a ball out of his ankle in spring training. The team called up Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Indianapolis to fill the security space.
The 25-year-old gonzales can play another base and shortstop. He was elected in the first round of 2020 MLB draft and debuted in the Major League in 2023. He hit .209 with 13 RBI in 35 games in his first season.
Last year, Gonzales had seven homes and 49 RBI to go with his solid frame in 387 record performances.
