- Pixel Watch 4 has been appointed to the best Smartwatch for Repair Over Apple Watch
- Ifixit made a collapse of Pixel Watch 4, and praised it by visible screws and easy access to the clock mechanism
- Outlet also treated Watch’s battery and named it a ‘really interchangeable Smartwatch battery’
When Google revealed Pixel Watch 4, we were glad to see a whole series of new features, from its upgraded battery life to its new smooth cocktores – but its interchangeable parts topped our list that is forgotten for a lot of laptop tech.
The possibility of being able to repair your own technique is a very ordinary request among consumers and has been for some time.
While most of the best phones have been changed to meet this request, Wearables are still overlooked in the department of repair, but Google changes it with Pixel Watch 4, a device that iFixit has crowned for the most repairable smartwatch out there – even turn out the Apple Watch.
What has changed?
In his collapse of Pixel Watch 4, Ifixit, a company that posts repair of devices and sells tool sets to do so, drawing attention to a number of new design elements that made it easier for consumers to repair their own devices. This bumps on its Pixel Watch 4 score to a 9/10 for repair.
It is significant compared to the low 3s and 4s, it is given to similar devices in the past, as most smartwatches arrive as sealed devices and require specialized services such as AppleCare.
First of all, Outlet Google’s latest smartwatch simply summarizes; “Away is glued, frustration and heartache. Instead of: screws, seals and pure design joy”.
What immediately stands out for Ifixit is the visibility of the Pixel Watch 4’s screws, considered “a good sign”, but Google takes it even further by giving each screw its own O-ring that keeps its IP68 water resistance intact-but still provides easy access inside the clock.
According to Ifixit, it managed to enter the clock within minutes just by using three Torx Plus Bits (1IP, 2IP and 5IP), a spudger and tweezers. This gives you access to the inside of the clock via the back.
From there you can even remove the main display as there is no glue holding it in place, as ifixit describes as a “complete reconsideration of Smartwatch -Design”. Then there is the question of the battery.
Once you have mastered the above, this gives you access to Pixel Watch’s battery, which Ifixit managed to remove and swap by removing its two screws and plugs – a ‘really interchangeable smartwatch battery’.
