Sony Senior Vice President Sadahiko Hayakawa has revealed some interesting details about the company’s current game strategy.
When he spoke in a question and answer after the company’s latest earnings call, Hayakawa was asked about Sony’s investment in various intellectual property rights (IP).
“We have switched to creation,” he replied, before noting a number of examples. This included the movement against production in digital cameras in Sony’s TV segment in addition to the expansion of the company’s music catalog through acquisitions.
“In our gaming business, we move away from a hardware -centered business more to a community -based engagement company,” he said.
“It has risen, so when we make more of a transition for more entertainment, the stability of our performance increases.”
What this can mean in practical terms, it is likely that we will see additional multi-platform PlayStation releases, especially when it comes to its live service offer.
In the case of a game like Helldivers 2to be launched on Xbox on August 26, it makes sense that Sony wants to maximize his sustained live service revenue by having the title available on as many platforms as possible rather than just PlayStation 5.
