Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Tadsjikistan for a two-day official visit aimed at improving bilateral relations and tackling regional and environmental challenges. The visit announced by the Prime Minister’s office signalizes Islamabad’s renewed diplomatic search in Central Asia.
Upon arrival at Dushanbe Airport on Thursday, the prime minister was received warmly by his Tadsjik colleague, Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, along with other senior Tadsjik officials, including Deputy Deneral Sharifzoda Farukh Homiddin.

The reception also included Tadsjikistan’s ambassador to Pakistan, Yusuf Sharifzoda and Pakistan’s ambassador to Tadsjikistan, Muhammad Saeed Sarwar. He is accompanied by Minister of Information Attaullah Tarar and special assistant to Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi.
The key of Premier Sharif’s visit is planned high-level talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. Discussions are expected to cover a wide range of sectors, including trade, energy, regional connection and security cooperation.
The prime minister is also likely to recognize Tajikistan’s steadfast support for Pakistan in the midst of the recent regional tensions, especially in the context of continuous stems between Islamabad and New Delhi. He will also attend a global conference on Glacier Conservation, which hosts Dushanbe.
In his address, he is expected to emphasize the catastrophic effects of climate change in Pakistan – especially in the Himalayan and Karakoram regions – and spokesman for the urgent international cooperation on environmental protection. He will confirm Pakistan’s “unshakable commitment” to preserve glaciers, a critical question for the country’s future water safety and ecological stability.
This visit not only reflects Islamabad’s strategic focus on Central Asia, but also its desire to play a leading role in climate diplomacy.
