Lahore:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday emphasized Pakistan’s obligation to exploit sports as a powerful tool for national growth and global harmony.
In his announcement on the occasion of the International Sports Day of Development and Peace, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan is in solidarity with the international community in recognizing the transformative power of the sport to promote positive changes, eliminating barriers and promoting unity beyond borders.
He highlights the role of the sport in youth power and national development and said: “Sport serves as an effective medium to promote our society and project Pakistan’s identity on the world stage. This is why our government has declared Sport a key pill on its development agenda.” He elaborated that national sports policy is centered on grassroots participation, talent discovery, gender equality and inclusive. With reference to initiatives such as Arshad Nadeem / Shehbaz Sharif High-Performance Academy, he said the goal is to equip young athletes with scientific training, financial support and modern facilities to help them meet future challenges.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of good governance in sports and said, “We believe that strong governance is the basis for successful sports institutions.” He added that the government is implementing reforms to increase transparency, accountability and professionalism within the National Sports Association, ensuring the choice of merit -based athlete and ethical behavior.
He also mentioned Pakistan’s preparations for the 14 South Asian Games in 2026 and efforts to organize nationwide training camps as part of his vision of establishing the country as a regional hub for sports expertise and tourism.
The end of his message called on the Prime Minister all stakeholders – including civil society and development partners – to integrate sports into policies related to education, health, development and peace.
