Islamabad:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday emphasized the need to further strengthen cooperation with the United Nations in Sustainable Development and Climate Change.
He confirmed Pakistan’s strong political commitment to promote the goal of fighting climate change in close cooperation and partnership with the international community and the UN.
The prime minister spoke with the UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan, Mohamed Yahya, who paid a courtesy call on him.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister valued the important work done by the UN national team in Pakistan. He conveyed his warm greetings to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, while gladly remembering his strong leadership in galvanizing global support to Pakistan during the floods of 2022.
IFC’s role
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Makhtar Diop, CEO and CEO Vice President of International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector’s investment arm for the World Bank Group (WBG), to discuss IFC’s ongoing and pipeline portfolio in Pakistan.
He appreciated the WBG’s recently launched new decade-long country partnership framework (CPF) (2026-2035) with its unprecedented commitment of $ 40 billion. It will include a superior $ 20 billion loan of the International Development Association (IDA) and International Bank for Reconstruction & Development (IBRD). IFC will mobilize an additional $ 20 billion to promote investments in the private sector in Pakistan.
The prime minister paid tribute to IFC’s role in promoting investments in the private sector and expanding the portfolio of Pakistan.
