PM leader to Qatar to Arabic-Islamic Summit at Palestine

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif travels to Qatar on September 15 to attend the Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha. A statement from the Foreign Office (FO) said Saturday.

The summit, co-sponsored by Pakistan, has been called in response to the recent Israeli air strikes on Doha and alarmingly worsening situation in Palestine and escalating Israeli aggression in Gaza and the West Bank.

According to the FO Declaration, the summit will gather leaders and senior officials from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States that will consider the regional crisis and formulate a common strategy.

“The summit reflects the urgent, felt across the Muslim world in the light of the Israeli strikes and attempts to force Palestinians,” FO said.

A preparatory session with foreign ministers for heads of state is scheduled for September 14 before the summit. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar represents Pakistan in the ministerial negotiations.

FO further noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Doha earlier on September 11, where he met the Qatari leadership and expressed Pakistan’s solidarity and support.

“Pakistan strongly condemns Israeli aggression against Qatar and other states in the region and confirms his commitment to regional peace, security and sovereignty of its partners,” the Foreign Office added.

Islamabad repeated his firm attitude towards Palestine question and called for an immediate end to hostilities through dialogue.
