PM marks parliamentarism day with call to strengthen democratic institutions

In his message of parliamentarism, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Nation called on to strengthen parliamentary institutions, maintain democratic values ​​and ensure that citizens’ votes are reflected in the legislation.

“The International Parliamentarism -Day, observed every year on June 30, confirms our global obligation to strengthen democratic institutions,” the prime minister noted in his message.

“The day also celebrates the important role of parliament in promoting inclusive governance, ensuring a meaningful representation of women and young people and embracing technological innovation in regulatory practice.

“Our parliament occupies a central place in our democratic framework. Through its legislative authority and the annual work of its standing committee, Parliament ensures accountability, transparency and supervision of the exercise.

“The Constitution of Pakistan -enshrine’s representation of women through reserved seats under Articles 51 and 59.

The Prime Minister said, “Parliament has also been proactive to adopt progressive legislation, especially to promote gender equality and social protection.”

“Including has also led our approach to governance. While preparing the federal budget for FY 2025-26, the government actively consulted coalition partners and greeted contributions from the entire political spectrum. This inclusive spirit is the foundation of a healthy democracy,” he continued.

“Our parliamentarians continue to play a dynamic role in the global parliamentary diplomacy. Through sustained commitment with platforms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), our representatives have advocated for peace, development and international cooperation.”

“Following the recent tensions of South Asia, Pakistan’s parliamentary delegation with multiple parties effectively projected our perspective on global forums through diplomatic search.

“Recognizing the evolving needs of modern governance, we have also embraced technology to improve parliamentary transparency and accessibility.

“When we mark this important day, let us renew our decision to strengthen parliamentary institutions, protect democratic values ​​and ensure that citizens’ votes are really reflected in the legislative process,” he concluded.
