Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has confirmed his commitment to reducing electricity stars for domestic consumers and industries through reforms of the electricity sector.
He was chairman of a high -level meeting on the implementation of reforms of the electricity sector and ordered officials to implement all planned reforms and initiatives within the stipulated timeframe.
During the Islamabad meeting, a briefing was provided about the three -year targets for reforms of the electricity sector. Officials stated that due to ongoing reforms and an anti-theft campaign, distribution companies had improved to 93.26% by December 2024.
PM Shehbaz highlighted the positive results of the reforms and said decades long inefficiency in the electricity sector was treated through coordinated efforts between the ministry and relevant institutions.
He emphasized that the government remains obliged to deliver low costs, environmentally friendly electricity to the public, and added that renegotiation agreements with independent power producers (IPPS) have resulted in financial savings for the National Ministry of Finance and a reduction in electricity prices.
He praised the Anti-Power theft campaign and noted that the reduction in losses, which became a bit of distribution companies, was a significant achievement and testimony to the inauguration of the Ministry of Energy and Supporting Agencies.
He instructed the crash of power theft was intensified to achieve a 100% reduction in losses across all distribution companies.
PM also said that the appointment of reputable professionals in the private sector to the boards of distribution companies yielded positive results. He instructed that similar agreements should be made in companies where boards should not be formed yet.
In addition, he emphasized that the reduction in transmission losses was a direct result of the ongoing reforms and repeated his commitment to further lowering the duty of households and industries.
The meeting also included a comprehensive briefing on the results of the electricity sector, which outlined strategies for the phase reduction of circular debt, the establishment of competitive electricity markets and the timetable for customs reductions.
Progress with major transmission line projects, including 500 kV Matiari-Moro-Rahim Yar Khan and Ghazi Brotha-Faisalabad transmission lines, were also reviewed.
Officials provided updates on the resolution of the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and the creation of a new device, Energy Infrastructure Development and Management Company (EIDMC).
PM Shehbaz instructed authorities to ensure timely implementation of all reforms and projects to increase the efficiency and sustainability of the electricity sector.
