Islamabad:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said the government prioritized efforts to digitize the economy and move all transactions to a cashless system.
He was chairman of a review meeting on the cashless and digital economy in the federal capital.
The Prime Minister expressed the satisfaction of progress towards a cashless economy and instructed chief secretaries to fully support the federal government in expanding the Raast system to district governments.
The meeting was informed of the progress of measures to promote a cashless economy.
The participants at the meeting were informed that digital IDs will be created under Pakistan Digital Public Infrastructure, which integrates citizens’ national identity cards, biometrics and mobile numbers to activate digital payments.
They were told that provincial governments had made significant progress in linking public-to-government and government-to-public payments with the Raast system.
At Digital Infrastructure, Capital Development Authority has assigned the right to the way to fiber connection, while conversations are ongoing with Pakistan Railways and National Highway Authority.
Federal Minister for Finance Minister and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister of Information and TV -Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister of Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, adviser to Prime Minister Dr. Tauqir Shah, Prime Minister of Finance Minister for Finance City and Railway and Railway Car Azhur Kayani and relevant senior officials attended the meeting.
