Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday praised the World Bank for his support for Pakistan’s attitude towards the Indus Waters Treaty and criticized India’s “unilateral and illegal” acts that he said undermine the Landmark Agreement.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the April 22 of Pahaldam, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), who killed 26 people. India accused Pakistan of the attack, but provided no evidence. Islamabad strongly denied the claims.
On April 23, India closed the Wagah boundary transition, recalled Pakistani Visa and announced the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan condemned the move as an “act of war” and responded by sealing the Wagah border on his part.
In a meeting with Ousmane Dione, Regional Vice President of the World Bank President of the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Repeated Shehbaz Pakistan’s obligation to maintain international law, pursue peaceful dialogue and promote regional prosperity.

The Prime Minister expressed the appreciation of the World Bank’s long -standing partnership and described his support as in line with Pakistan’s legal attitude towards wandering rights under the treaty.
Shehbaz also recognized the strategic role of the country’s partnership framework in supporting Pakistan’s national priorities, especially in energy, climate change, human development and government reform.

He thanked the bank for his timely assistance in the floods in 2022, enabling Pakistan to start relief and rehabilitation efforts for the communities concerned.
Dione confirmed the World Bank’s obligation to expand cooperation with Pakistan and paid tribute to the government’s reform agenda aimed at ensuring macroeconomic stability and long -term sustainability.
Both sides expressed a joint decision to elaborate on cooperation in the coming years to accelerate development and improve the livelihood.
Previously, the World Bank confirmed its support for Pakistan’s financial stability during a separate meeting held on Wednesday between Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema and Ousmane Dione at the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Islamabad.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the bank valued Pakistan’s reform efforts and progress under the country’s partnership framework.
Both sides discussed opportunities to elaborate on cooperation in critical sectors with emphasis on ensuring sustained recovery and long -term financial resilience.
