PM Shehbaz removes ban on domestic gas connections

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) CEO Aamir Tufail has announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has lifted the ban on domestic gas connections. He also said that this year’s target of 300,000 connections will be achieved, and from next year and in the future, 600,000 domestic consumers will have gas connections annually.

Approval has also been awarded for liquid natural gas (LNG) compounds.

Mr. Tufail said: “Fluent petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders are 30% more expensive than our LNG supply.” He added that consumers no longer have to buy gas cylinders as gas will be delivered directly through home connections.

Demand messages have been received from nearly 245,000 applicants. Those who have already paid will be prioritized, although consumers can submit an urgent fee to speed up the process.

Previously, LNG was only imported to burn the electricity sector, which has now ceased to buy LNG.

“While LNG is actually expensive, it is not unaffordable if used far,” explained Mr. Tufail. The price of LNG is set for RS3,200 per Metric millions of British thermal devices (MMBTU).

To ensure efficient management, surveillance units are created at SNGPL’s headquarters and regional offices. Mr. Tufail said the abolition of the ban and approval of LNG connections has been made for the public’s convenience.
