PM Shehbaz Sharif departs for an official visit to Malaysia

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif traveled on Kuala Lumpur on Sunday for a three-day official visit to invitation from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

High -level delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information and Disposal of Attaullah Tarar and the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.

Both countries are expected to sign Memoranda on understanding (Mous) for collaboration in trade, education, energy, infrastructure, investment, information technology, telecommunications and halal industry.

PM Ibrahim’s last visit to Pakistan was in early October 2024, when he was awarded Nishan-E-Pakistan in recognition of his support for Islamic Brotherhood and Cooperation.

Pakistan and Malaysia are tied through the Malaysian Pakistan Coser Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA), signed in 2007. The Free Trade Agreement was signed to promote trading in goods and services and secure regulated cross -border investment flows. MPCEPA ensures capacity building in intellectual real estate protection, healthcare, telecommunications, tourism and construction.

The agreements are set to elaborate on cooperation and move beyond traditional diplomacy to create concrete growth and shared prosperity for both nations.
