PM to join Muslim leaders for joint conversations with Trump

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with the leaders of six Islamic countries, will meet US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (tomorrow) on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (Unga), the Foreign Office said in a statement on Sunday.

Shehbaz will lead Pakistan’s delegation on the annual Unga session in New York from 22 to 26 September. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, senior minister and chief officials, according to the Foreign Office.

President Trump has invited leaders in Pakistan, Saudi -Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Indonesia and Egypt to a joint meeting, it is taught. The Foreign Office said the leaders will “exchange views on issues relating to regional and international peace and security”.

Diplomatic sources told The Express Pakinomist that a separate bilateral meeting between Shehbaz and Trump is also being considered. If it is materialized, this will be the first direct interaction between the two leaders since Trump returned to the White House earlier this year.

The Prime Minister will turn to the United Nations General Assembly on September 26. At his address at the General Assembly, the Prime Minister will draw the International Society’s attention to the grave crisis in Gaza and call for the suffering of the Palestinians to end the sufferings of the Palestinians.

“The Prime Minister will urge the international community to resolve situations with long -term occupation and denial of the right to self -determination in Indian illegally occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) and Palestine,” the Foreign Office said.

“He will also highlight Pakistan’s perspective on the regional security situation as well as other issues of international concerns, including climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia and sustainable development,” the statement added.

On the Unga sidelines, Shehbaz meetings of the UN Security Council (UNSC), the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and a special summit for climate action. He is expected to attend a conference on the two-state solution to the Palestine question Monday (today).

He is expected to emphasize the role of Pakistan as elected member of the Security Council and confirm Islamabad’s decision to work with all UN Member States to maintain the UN -Charter, prevent conflicts and promote peace and prosperity. He is likely to participate in a UNSC briefing on Israeli aggression in Palestine.

During the week-long visit, the Prime Minister holds bilateral conversations with a number of world leaders and senior UN officials to discuss questions of mutual interest. On Tuesday, he will also attend a reception hosted by UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres in honor of visiting heads of state.

According to the Prime Minister’s schedule, available to Express Pakinomist, Shehbaz will meet Qatar’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Tuesday. He is also expected to meet the Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker.

Later, he will attend an international development meeting, chairman of the Chinese Prime Minister, and attend a reception hosted by the US president of the world leaders. Wednesday, Shehbaz is expected to meet philanthropist Bill Gates.

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister also participates in a climate change session, chairman of the UN Secretary General and then a debate on artificial intelligence, which will host the South Korean president. On Thursday he attends a ceremony and marks the 30th anniversary of the Global Program for Youth.

According to sources, the prime minister during his stay may also meet with prime ministers in China, Italy and Canada, Iran’s President, the EU EU EU EU leader, as the CEO of the IMF – although these are not yet planned.

Officials said Shehbaz’s participation in the “largest annual collection of world leaders” would reflect Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and provide a platform to highlight its many years of contribution to peacekeeping, climate insurance and sustainable development.
