Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a nationwide warning as heavy monsoon rains are expected to hit different regions in the country tonight and Monday, raising concerns about flash floods, landslides and flooding of cities.
According to PMD, strong monsoon streams from the Arabian Sea and Bengal Bay, along with a Western wave, will probably affect the upper and central parts of the country.
As a result, heavy rain is expected in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Martan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Northeastern Punjab, Hill Torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Part of Balochistan.
The department warned that the intense rainfall can cause flooding of flash in local streams and nullahs, especially in hilly areas.
Landslides and mud glids could lead to road closures in vulnerable regions, including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The city’s flood is also probably in low -lying areas in major cities such as Islamabad, Rawal Pindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar.
Strong wind storms can damage power lines, trees, vehicles and solar panels.
Today, hot and humid conditions are expected in most of the country with isolated thunderstorms in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan and southern Punjab.
On Monday, rainstorms and thunderstorms are expected in scattered areas of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Authorities have advised residents in areas at high risk of taking precautions and avoiding unnecessary trips during the expected period.
