Islamabad:
The Monsun season this year will begin on Wednesday (tomorrow), which brings rain to different regions in the country, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts Monday warning of potential flash flooding, urban inundation, landslides and other rain-related dangers.
The weather department said that a strong western wave was expected to approach the northern regions on June 25 (tomorrow) and possibly matter before June 26, resulting in heavy rain activity across most provinces and territories.
At present, according to PMD, moist streams from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal had already begun to penetrate the upper and central parts of Pakistan and were probably intensified over the next few days.
As a result, PMD said, rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms with spread heavy and sometimes very heavy, is expected falls from the evening or night on June 24 to July 2 with occasional holes in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Punjab.
The first monsoon showers in AJK were expected in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur. Similarly, GB districts such as Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghande and Shigar may receive rain from 26 to 29 June.
In northern Punjab, moderate is expected to heavy rain with wind and thunderstorms in Islamabad, Rawal Pindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Sialkot, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Okara, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali from June 25 with July 1 with Interm.
In South Punjab, PMD said areas including Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffarh, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Layyah expected to receive rain between June 26 and June 28.
In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), widespread rain is expected with wind and thunderstorms in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagtram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Manshra, Haripur, Peshawar, Maran, Maran, Maran, Maran, Maran, Maran, Maran, Mary Hangu and Kurram from June 25 to July 1 with occasional holes.

In Sindh, precipitation was expected with wind and thunderstorms in the upper and southeast districts, including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Kashmore, Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Badin and Karachi from June 28 to June 28 to June 28.
“The heavy to very heavy rain can trigger flash flooders in local streams and nullahs, especially in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, SWAT, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad, Rawal Pindi, Hill Torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, Northeast Punjab and Kashmir between June 26,” Torrents.
“The tubes can also cause flooding of cities in low -lying areas of Islamabad, Rawal Pindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar during the same period, while similar conditions could affect Hyderabad and Karachi between June 26 and June 28,” added.
PMD warned that heavy rainfall combined with wind storms and lightning could interfere with daily life and cause damage to weak structures such as Kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.
It added that the continuous wet spell could pose the risk of landslide that could result in road closures in vulnerable hilly areas of KP, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and GB. The department advised farmers to manage their agricultural activities considering the rain forecast.
“Tourists and travelers are encouraged to plan their travels carefully to avoid any unfortunate incidents during that period of intense weather activity. The authorities have been instructed to remain in high alarm and take necessary measures to protect life and property,” PMD said.
