PMD predicts widespread rain today

Islamabad:

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts on Thursday widespread rain winds and thunderstorms in various parts of the country Friday with warning of flash river in vulnerable districts.

PMD expected rain in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Northeast Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Kashmir, while 40% chance of rain and thunderstorms in Islamabad. It said a warm and humid weather will prevail in other parts of the country, especially in Sindh and southern Balochistan.

PMD warned that a heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding in local nullahs and streams in parts of KP, including DIR, SWAT, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Kohat, Karak, Hangu and Tank, as well as Dera Ghazi Khan, South Punjab, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir.

“Citizens are advised to take precautions as wind storms, lightning and heavy rainfall can damage vulnerable structures such as Kacha houses, electric poles, advertising boards, solar panels and parked vehicles,” it said.

According to PMD, considerable rain was recorded over the last 24 hours. The maximum rain was registered in Bannu, which received 38 millimeters; Followed by 35 mm in Layyah; 29 mm in Bahawalnagar; and up to 19 mm in Bahawalpur.

Despite widespread rainfall, high temperatures were also recorded in several areas. Nokkundi was the hottest spot in the country with Mercury Soaring for 45C, followed by Dalbandin at 44c, Panjgur at 43c and Sibi at 42C.

Authorities have called on citizens, especially in flooded areas, to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary journeys under heavy rain. Emergency Services and local administrations have been brought to tackle any inappropriate situation.
