PML-N leaders spar over Zakat Council Presidency

A political traction has erupted between two PML-N leaders in Rawalpindi over the long-standing presidency of District Zakat Council. The position has remained unfilled in the last two years, which stopped the distribution of Zakat funds to the recipients.

Member of the National Assembly Malik Abrar Ahmed Lobbies to appoint Malik Imran as chairman, while the federal minister of railways Hanif Abbasi is pressing for Raja Jibran Rafaqat. In addition to these two frontls, three other PML-N candidates are also in violation of the position.

According to sources in the Zakat department, the names of Malik Imran and Raja Jibran Rafaqat have been on the list and sent to the Punjab government for final approval. The appointment is expected to be made shortly after Eid.

Due to the long -term vacancy position, the distribution of Zakat funds has been quiet for two years, which has left thousands of recipients without financial assistance.
