PML-N’s Rana Sanaullah wins the Senate by election in Punjab

Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah was declared successful in the Senate by election Tuesday, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results.

The seat had fallen vacancy for the incompatibility of PTI’s Ejaz Chaudhry in his conviction in cases on May 9.

Polling took place at the Punjab assembly from 9 to 16, where 251 votes were cast in total. Only one vote was rejected during the counting process. Sanaullah, who demanded 181 votes to win, passed comfortably the threshold with a commanding margin.

Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) Candidate Salma Ejaz failed to secure any votes when the opposition Boikoted the vote.

Provincial Election Commissioner and Recurring Officer (RO) Sharifullah formally announced the result after the end of the voting number.
