The Pakistani navy on Saturday successfully carried out the medical evacuation of a Sri Lankan national on the open sea, approximately 1,500 kilometers off the coast of Pakistan.
A Navy statement said PNS ships Tabuk and Moawin successfully completed the medical evacuation of a Sri Lankan national who required “urgent medical attention” on an Indonesian-flagged merchant vessel (MV) Gray Palm.
“The operation was launched following a formal request from [the] Sri Lanka’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) for [the] rendering medical aid to a Sri Lankan national crew member in critical condition on board the MV Gray Palm, located 800 nautical miles (approximately 1,500 kilometers) off the coast of Pakistan,” the statement said.
The Pakistani navy sent its ships as first responders and evacuated the Sri Lankan crew member along with a companion, it said. Subsequently, the patient immediately received the necessary treatment on board the navy vessel, it added.
“The Sri Lankan authorities and the person’s family thanked Pakistan [the] quick response and support,” the statement said.
